Lettering artist, Watercolorist and Sumi-e artist, Phyllis incorporates the spontaneity and simplicity of Eastern techniques borrowed from her studies in Sumi-e and Chinese brush painting to produce expressive botanicals and subjects in nature using the Western tool, the wedge brush. She is a 2013 Graceful Envelope Contest winner, and has a special passion for graceful lettering and embellishing of envelopes, cards, and documents for meaningful occasions. Her mentors and teachers include Master Penman Harvest Crittenden and Master Penman William A. Lilly. Her work has been featured in a variety of calligraphy and wedding publications including, Brides House of Vogue, Chic Vintage Bride, Bound & Lettered, Scripsit, and Calligraphy Crush Magazine, and she has collaborated on projects with PBS, Sakura of America, and The Art Gallery Annex of Hamilton.

Phyllis currently teaches private, semi-private and group classes locally in Ontario and internationally online.  Her classroom is a calm, supportive learning environment where kindness rules, and where each student is encouraged to develop one’s own creative style.

"I BELIEVE IN EVERYONE'S POTENTIAL

and if I can share with others the richness and wonderful joy of artful expression, then creatives can come to realize the delightful pleasure and magic of one’s own unique creativity.  I believe that everyone has the ability to celebrate and develop one’s own signature style.  Finding this joy in creative expression with brush and pen, and sharing it with others is a deeply rewarding journey for me.”
